Single-gene disorders are diseases produced as a result of mutation or deletion of a particular gene. Although not as prevalent as other disorders, genetic disorders are still encountered in daily practice and are distinctive for their characteristic clinical manifestations.
In this course, the student will be given an overview of autosomal dominant and recessive disorders, X-linked dominant and recessive disorders, and mitochondrial DNA inheritance.
For optimal comprehension, the student should be familiar with the basic concepts of molecular and cell biology, with an emphasis on genetics.
