A genome is defined as the set of genes in a living organism. Genomics is the branch of applied science focused on the structure, function, mapping, and editing of the genome of a particular organism. Genomics play a key role in a multitude of fields, including evolutionary biology and microbiology. For example, genetic mappings can shine light on antimicrobial susceptibility in a new bacterial strain.
In this course, the student will be introduced to the types of genetic mapping, methods of sequencing, and interpretation of genetic mappings.
For optimal comprehension, the student will be required to be familiar with the basic concepts of college-grade biology and chemistry.
