von Lariat A. am 20. März 2024 für Membrane Physiology
while visual aids were pretty cool, the lecture was more of narration but not with simplicity and in-depth tutoring i am accustomed to. I was hoping for more variation, which was the reason i spent a little more time watching them. After a few, i concluded that it wasn't doing it for me. But of course, it was only a few topics i reviewed as i was busy with clinical rotations. thank you all in all.

The most important part of this lecture in my opinion is the analogies that Dr. Georgina offers. It really help us to understand for example when she associated the Golgi Complex with a Fedex facility, or when she connects the fact that liver cells have more SER since one of its important functions is detoxification.

Errors in the Video
von Peddi A. am 16. Oktober 2023 für Fatty Acid Synthesis
I've reviewed the Video, and while it provides a comprehensive overview, there are a few points that need clarification.
"Fatty acid synthesis doesn't occur in the mitochondrion; it occurs in the cytoplasm, sequestered from fatty acid oxidation, simplifying the regulation of the two pathways."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis indeed occurs in the cytoplasm, separate from fatty acid oxidation that takes place in mitochondria. This separation allows for streamlined regulation, ensuring the balance between synthesis and breakdown.
"Fatty acid synthesis is chemically similar to the reverse of oxidation, involving joining, reduction, loss of water, and a final reduction, making it essentially the reverse of oxidation."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis does indeed involve joining of acetyl and malonyl units, reduction steps, and removal of water, making it similar but not exactly the reverse of oxidation. The subtle differences in the chemical steps are crucial for the controlled synthesis of fatty acids.
"The enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase is regulated through phosphorylation by AMP-activated protein kinase and allosteric binding of citrate, ensuring the balance between synthesis and cellular energy levels."
Clarification: Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, a key enzyme in fatty acid synthesis, is indeed regulated through phosphorylation and allosteric binding of citrate. This regulation allows cells to respond to energy demands, modulating fatty acid production accordingly.
"Fatty acid synthesis involves a series of steps catalyzed by the multifunctional enzyme fatty acid synthase, where individual activities within the enzyme complex work together, ensuring efficient fatty acid production."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthase, a multi functional enzyme complex, plays a central role in fatty acid synthesis. Its individual activities work in harmony within the complex, allowing for the sequential addition of carbon units and the creation of fatty acids up to 16 carbons in length.

Resourceful Review on Mucous vs. Serous Glands
von Shane D. am 25. August 2023 für Mucous and Serous Glands
Although I am at present an unknowledgeable M0, I appreciate how informative this introductory lecture is on mucous versus serous glands, and that an associated slide with images is presented. Histology is a notably difficult course in medical school, especially for people without prior exposure. What textbook(s) or online readings or articles would you recommend reading to further supplement learning of mucous and serous glands and epithelium throughout the human body?

von Deborah H. am 19. Dezember 2022 für Chromosomal Disorders
I understand that medical genetics is a difficult course to review but improvements are definitely needed in the following areas:
1. State and simplify definitions. Too often i need to refer to Google for a more basic explanation.
2. Please stop assuming basic knowledge is still fresh. I haven't study genetics in 7 years and i have forgotten EVERYTHING! So, along the way and with each new concept please give some foundational information.

I have really learned. Before, I was wondering why study, or cram all those pathways and enzymes. How Professor Kevin Ahern explains and bring out concepts, Oh my God so great. Hormones and signal Transduction by doctor Kevin Ahern is a great course.
von Gulbanu S. am 20. Oktober 2021 für Hormones and Signal Transduction
Yes, hormones and their transduction signals are important like a cardiac conduction system starting form the Sino-atrial node (SA) finishing in the Purkinjie fibres . I mean Hormones and signal transduction are really well explained by a doctor doctor Kevin Ahern . He has been presenting the most complicated part of the medicine course so well.
In terms of pregnant patient for example who does need an extra attention and management as they go though various hormonal changes while caring out pregnancy and delivery tasks.
I cant thank enough for his contribution . I much appreciated.

organization of the MRI section is confusing. It would have been better to show the definitions and the pictures at the same time...instead of using terms not previously introduced...and then switching to the definitions, but now the viewer can't see the image which demonstrates the terms. Instead, I had to look up the terms on my own and then I could better understand the lecture. I also had to spend time going back and forth with the slides and transcript/video to better understand. In short, the organization of this section could have been done better.

von Jasmine M. am 27. September 2021 für Cutting the DNA
in depth knowledge on DNA splicing, ecor 1 and so the base pairs want to stick together and then ligase comes along to stick together the backbones, the phosphate-sugar backbones. Here you can see how the two pieces come together and now we have a recombinant DNA molecule. Again, we are generally looking at a circular chromosome and a foreign piece of DNA being inserted into that circular chromosome and so we'll see two ends of sticky ends and insertion of that sequence.

Hello,
I love supporting women in science and education, etc. I also will share my honest opinion to improve the educational site. This lecturer, while alright, is not the best you could get for Lecturio students. Her constant glancing over her notes is distracting and she is not very well articulated. Even though she is Ph.D., she has not digested her lecturing materials to the master's level. It is very unfortunate that she lectures on one of the most important subjects within your platform. Why you chose her? For the sake of diversity and involvement? I am sure there are much better and knowledgeable lady lecturers. Did not you see the disengagement and flaw after a couple of her lectures? Was she so cheap?

I thought this lecture was relatively easy to follow. The video brings forward the relevant pathways to highlight them and Dr Wilson explains their function and why they are causing the response they do. I can understand that if you watch this one out of series it might be a little hard to follow but like most of the lecturio videos, you should watch the entire series once through and then review specific videos at your leisure.

I use Emery’s Elements of Medical Genetics 15th edition as primary study material, which i recommend for anyone to use. I decided to take this course as a supplement and ended up confused and annoyed.
Simple learning objectives of this course lectures are harder to understand due to poor explanation and as far as i can tell the professor seems stressed, disoriented and confused herself. Lectures need a rework.
Despite that, the articles are pretty good and helpful, PowerPoint slides are useful to an extend.

Dr. Meyer is a great teacher, a lot from my experience with his videos regarding the introduction to the mammalian cell however, this video definitely left a lot to be discerned and was not very informative. Required me to do a lot of googling to make sense of much of these... Hard to follow and disappointing.

It makes histology simply amazing
von Favour E. am 20. Oktober 2020 für Epithelial Tissue
I chose 5 stars because the lectures were detailed and there were enough slides to explain every point. This really helped me while studying the topic in my textbook as I understood the slides and why they were so; why some looked pale and others look deeply stained, it's simply amazing.
I although didn't like that some of the lectures had the last few seconds cut out (for me).
I would recommend this lecture to those who have been trying to figure out why histological slides are why they are and have thus found histology "boring".

And I also like due to the fact that this video is clearly a high-yield resource which is very helpful for my upcoming medical exam. However, I believe that this could have been better had the previous cycles preceding the formation of OMP explained as well in order for us the students to be able to get the essence of the information better. I wish I could flag certain cards to not be included in the "spaced repetition".
von Yuan Yuan C. am 15. Juni 2020 für Cell Cycle and Cell Division
I like the format - the lectures are "short and sweet". The lecturer is reasonable easy to listen to. Perhaps it is just because this is a foundation course, but it does feel this material may not be in-depth enough for USMLE step 1. (Or perhaps because it's re-used for non-USMLE students?).
The questions are just "okay". There are a few errors, and a couple questions could be worded better.
It also seems that some of these questions are testing material that seems only marginally important, and may not be very "high-yield". I wish there was an option to flag review questions to not be included in the "spaced repetition". The "spaced repetition" idea should be for memorizing the most important details, and I don't really want to be memorizing questions that I think are of little importance, incorrect, or poorly worded. (It'd also be a good way your you at Lecturio to decide which questions should be revised - if many people flag it as "don't review again", the question probably needs revision.)
False Advertising
von Stephen A. am 12. Juni 2020 für The Eye: General Structure
Here is a quote from which describes Lecturio:
"In order to take on this challenge, Lecturio created a high-quality digital medical education resource, which is affordable, adaptive, and personalized. We designed our platform with the needs of learners and faculty in mind, combined with the latest state-of-the-art learning technology and comprehensive monitoring and assessment features."
The lecturer keeps saying that he is going to have the "anatomists" explain the structure in detail...so why are we wasting our money looking at this. I paid for a subscription to this site for "state-of-the-art learning technology." If a customer clicks on the video to see a presentation on the general structure of the eye, they shouldn't have to waste their time watching a PowerPoint with no pictures of the eye. It is an insult for customers to have this guy put up this type of presentation. My textbooks have better supplemental material .
Someone please edit this guy's presentation - or just pay a high schooler to bring "state-of-the-art" technology to your site!
von Stephen A. am 12. Juni 2020 für Iris
This is what you read on Lecturio's site:
"In order to take on this challenge, Lecturio created a high-quality digital medical education resource, which is affordable, adaptive, and personalized. We designed our platform with the needs of learners and faculty in mind, combined with the latest state-of-the-art learning technology and comprehensive monitoring and assessment features."
STATE OF THE ART??? These are PowerPoint slides!!! The guy is talking about different structures and you have to pause the video to find what he is trying to reference! Get a pointer. Use an arrow. Show the viewer the exact location you want to emphasize. If I turned this type of presentation in for a grade, I would get it returned. Kahn Academy, Ken Hub...this is as low tech as you can get. I expected so much more. You are supposed to save us time. I hate writing this but other people have to know that this lecturer's delivery - I might as well get a text book out and read it to myself.

von Branden O. am 01. April 2020 für Organ of Corti
This series of lectures about the ear really need to be addressed, they make no sense, if you don't already have a complex knowledge of the ear. Once you have that this I guess is a good way to review, but then why am I paying for this for 2 years? If this is how it is supposed to be lecturio should be advertised as step prep company only, not as a supplement to lectures. Disappointed in the ear and hearing series of lectures.
This lecture is hard to follow.

Good job teaching, but some topics are missing
von Viktoria W. am 03. Januar 2020 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
Dr. Raj does a good job teaching and he does a good job of connecting the theory to clinical scenarios, but sometimes the lectures are not as easy to follow i.e. a litte bit disorganised. It would be easier to follow, if you had a script with some of the high associations with explanations. It would make it easier to follow. Also, there are some topics missing for basic pathology e.g. cell injury, necrosis and apoptosis. You should definitely make some more videos!

von Arnaldo L. am 31. Oktober 2019 für Biochemistry of Collagen
I like Dr. Ahern's lectures, I think he is the best in this program. He's very straight forward, precise, concise and connects different points related to what he's talking.
After seen these videos I went ahead and did a q-bank of a different program and nailed the ones related to this thanks to his lecture.
Some people need to keep in mind that these lectures are not going to cover every single detail, but unlike lectures from others study courses, they do cover more than the basics. For broader information with specific details you definitely need to read textbooks (e.g. Guyton, Robbins, Harrison's) and " google" it up.

von Enrique L. am 24. März 2019 für Cell Cycle and Cell Division
I like so much the content of this course and how the doctor provide the information
Difficult but useful course
von Mathew C. am 20. März 2019 für Urinary Tract Physiology
The content of this course was fairly comprehensive and Professor Wilson does a good job of explaining most of the content. The quiz questions are also useful though sometimes poorly worded. I really liked the last few lectures on the more clinical practicalities of the content we had just learned.
The course is arranged in a way that makes it somewhat difficult to follow sometimes. I had to go away and make sure i was read up fairly well on the kidney before i could understand enough to watch through all the lectures and i feel a better introduction to the kidney and how its anatomy and physiology are arranged and interconnect would have been useful. I think a section regarding the interaction of pharmacology and renal physiology would also have been a nice touch.
All in all, worthwhile once you can begin to understand it

Great Lecturer - content OK.
von Michael D. am 24. Februar 2019 für ATPases
In the lecture Thad says that ATPase is a V-type pump, but in the test it is a P-Type pump, which is correct. This pump is called a P-type ion pump because the ATP interactions phosphorylates the transport protein and causes a change in its conformation. There should be a review process to ensure accuracy before these lessons are released. Overall a great lecture, but details like this are important ones not to miss. Thanks!

As a Danish medical student, with English only as my second language, I admit, I had to spend some time "tuning in" on Dr. Raj's way of speaking. See, he's an extremely fast speaker, but as I did get used to this, I really learned to appreciate his way of teaching. Actually, his way of speaking kind of peaks my attention and focus, since my brain has to work harder for it.

von Sunil K. am 02. Januar 2019 für Cell Cycle Controls
The lecturer did not appear confident looking into notes too often. Too many hand gestures are a distraction especially when not pointing to the stuff on the slides.

von Mazen A. am 03. Oktober 2018 für Cells of the Epidermis
this article handles the explanation for skin layers; which I find as the hardest of the topics, in a well organised and logically acceptable building. It is really interesting to read. I would recommend this to my premedical colleagues.

Good lecture, but not USMLE focused. This is more of a general biology lecture than a USMLE prep lecture. It seems to me that Lecturio is not making the difference between MCAT prep and USMLE prep. The lectures look more like MCAT prep lectures and not USMLE.

Errors in Lecture Course
von Joseph D. am 03. Juni 2018 für Hormones and Signal Transduction
Hello Dr. Ahern. Your lectures were phenomenal, but for several of the lectures the slides did not correspond with your lecture (they were of totally different topics) or they changed midway into into unrelated biochemistry topics. It may be best to review them and adjust the errors. However, your presentation was so so good that I was easily able to follow your lectures with the downloaded lecture slides.

In terms of studying for something like USMLE, brief intro is fine! Such topics will not be tested on the exam but are necessary to build foundations for other future topics.
If you are studying for other exams, this whole module may be a bit light on key information. Great as a refresher though!

von WAYNE A. am 25. April 2018 für Lysosomes
First of all I would like to say that I really appreciate all of the effort by the professors and Lecturio to do great lectures, however, I would like to say, as well, that you need to focus on the exam format (In this case - USMLE Step 1). For example, in this lecture it was asked: "Which of the following is NOT a lysosome related disorder?" that is pretty good, because it has a clinical context with the subject, however this " lysosome related disorder" have never been taught by Professor Cornwall.

I liked his class. The Lecurer breaks the material down in a way that is easy to undersand. This course is a god send. I have to take this course being an FNP student in graduate school. The quizes are remarkedly like our exams in Advanced Pharmacology. I like how the quizes pop up in the middle of the lecture, it helps you process the material. I plan on taking all the advanced pharmacology course offered and tthe price cant be beat. You are learning valuable material like you would in a college course only it is a lot less money. The knowledge I am learing from this course is invaluable to me and is helping my confidence before I take my advanced pharmacology course for colleg credit. I will follow up with a review when I actually pass the class. I already know it is helping me. Thank you for making this availble to the public. I wish I could get college credit for this. I would say I love the course, But I am not a big fan of pharmacolgy in general as it is a very challenging course for me.

I cannot believe I am just now finding this resource during my dedicated Step 1 period. However, I am so glad that I found it now, right at the beginning of Step prep, rather than later. I plan to use this as one of my main resources for the remainder of time up until my exam. I realized while reading First Aid that, although I had known the subjects very well at one point, that my foundation was not as solid as it once was. This is perfect for reviewing and providing the big picture for everything. It's also an amazing resource for providing the "why" and "how" behind all the small factoids written in First Aid which is just what I need. It's so much easier to retain the information when you actually understand what is going on rather than memorizing a 650+ page book of bullet point lists/facts. This is great. I was a huge fan of Boards and Beyond, but I have since ditched that resource and am fully focusing on this one since this seems a lot more comprehensive and better taught (though Dr. Ryan has also done an amazing job too). Thank you guys so much for coming out with such a well thought out and developed and thorough resource. This is going to make board prep so much smoother. If I end up scoring highly on Step 1, I will make sure to write a review on Reddit, SDN, etc raving about Lecturio.

Not bad but can be better. And also more inclusive
Could be a little bit more didactic
von Sidney F. am 27. März 2018 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
Doctor Raj shows huge knowledge on the subject, but goes through some important and difficult points too 'en passant', as on details of cellular signaling and too many unexplained abbreviations (mpgn, e.g.). At the same time, quite a long time was spent unnecessarily reinforcing obvious concepts ( superoxide / phagocytosis etc).
I'm strongly willing to better rate his lectures on the next courses.

Excellent lecture + few suggestions for improvement
von The Anh B. am 22. März 2018 für Muscle Tissue
Prof. Meyer is an excellent teacher. His lecturing method is very clear and pleasant.
Maybe some constructive improvement tips:
- In most lectures Prof. Meyer would describe an histological structure while showing an image. But those particular feature he was describing weren't always marked so in those cases I wasn't sure which structure he was talking about (but in some few videos there were nice animation, so maybe you guys are already working on this point)
- Secondly, i was wondering if some of those subjects would be relevenat for the USMLE (Step 1). If it is, I think, it would be a pretty cool feature to integrate some USMLE-like questions after each video (also for other topisc than histology)

average explanation. This course does not go into deep details. Anyone who lacks fundamental knowledge of the ANS will not be able to get everything the prof said. The questions are good but some lack explanations, others which have explanations, are not rich enough.
The diagrams could be better. And the feedback feature of questions is removed. I think the answer to one of the questions which is shown as right is wrong and I could not give feedback.

von Andreas F. am 02. Oktober 2017 für Lipid Metabolism
Kevin must be the best teacher ever. He explains with a certainty only a person with many years of lecturing can. Simple, easy and fast, making complicated matters seem easy to learn.
Compared to the slides i have in med. school, the content is the same. But this guy also gives the explaination in the same amount of time!
His body language is also nice to watch as they are firm and open, kind of directing your thoughts, like a maestro.
You just have to remember and do some repetition of EVERY detail he mentiones, it will for sure be on the exam.
I also use his lectures to simplify my understandings from pdf files from school and heavy textbooks.
I will recommend everyone to use this!!
Also i love the quiz afterwards.

It would have been great to list the most common agents that could potentially lead to liver toxicity aside from paracetamol, incl phenytoin, statins, amiodarone, methotrexate. Also not sure if this would be discussed in the Emergency Medicine talks but actually working up the patient and what to do from a monitoring point of view once a diagnosis of paracetamol overdose would have been really helpful. It would have been worth noting that acetylcysteine most efficacious within 8 to 10 hours after ingestion of paracetamol.

von Rebecca S. am 04. März 2017 für Single-Gene Disorders
These lectures (all of medical genetics) was really useful in connecting your knowledge. It is great how general theory is connected to the most important genetic diseases - very useful
Very Good Professor.
von Eda D. am 02. März 2017 für Pathway Overview and Reactions – Part 1
Great professor, great explanations. This video was like a summary of important parts.

This IS the "fundamentals of pathology"
von Ahmad R. am 24. Februar 2017 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
The past reviewers mistook his enthusiasm for arrogance. You can tell how much Dr. Raj loves what he does, and it makes it a heck of a lot easier for us. I wish I had discovered this sooner.
it was very good lecture it will help me in my med biochem class thanku

It was very simple, the explanation is ideal for those who are starting on the subject and the images are awesome
Five stars.
von Gonzalo A. am 15. Februar 2017 für Urinary Tract Physiology
The lecture is enough detailed so one does not fall behind compared to others who choose to read about this topic.
The lecturer speaks slow and calm, and he is very articulate.
Love the visual effect
von Fadekemi A. am 11. Februar 2017 für Membrane Physiology
The visual effects are very good and encouraging. I would definitely recommend it to my colleagues

Very straightforward
von Ari S. am 02. Februar 2017 für Carbohydrate Metabolism
Exactly what I needed. Straightforward and to the point. Linearly organized.
Slightly distracting
von Andrea B. am 02. Februar 2017 für Urinary Tract Physiology
The images and lecture format are very helpful, but I get very distracted every time this professor mis-speaks or stumbles on the lecture. I'm not sure why the lecture is posted with these errors since they can be confusing when you're learning the material for the first time.
Awesome
von Yuyutsu K. am 01. Februar 2017 für Lipid Metabolism

Keep it up .. easy to understand . Lecture in a simple way
Please include mnemonics for easy remembrance
von Fadekemi A. am 01. Februar 2017 für Carbohydrate Metabolism
Hello though I learnt new things by the good explanation of the pathway but I will be happy if there could be mnemonics to remember then easily.
Thanks

dry concepts well presented and made easy, did the job
ARROGANCE.
von Jake Bryan C. am 20. Januar 2017 für Phagocytosis – Inflammation and Wound Repair
Great content. Very intelligent and elaborate lecturer. However, Dr. Raj sounds very arrogant, particularly when he delivers condescending remarks.

Good course, wonderful teacher!
von MD M. am 01. Dezember 2016 für Cell Cycle and Cell Division
Well, I love the way Dr. G explains, however, the lecture on cell control wasn't the best and needed more explanations and needed to be more simplified . I put five stars because Dr. G has helped me a lot and made Biology a fun course.
Cellular Structure
von Danielle O. am 29. November 2016 für Cellular Structure
This course really helped me understand the cellular structure, I learnt more from one of the 20 minute lectures, than I did in a 3 hour lecture at university, so these really help!

More High Yield and Straight Foward Course
von Vivian D. am 06. November 2016 für Chromosomal Disorders
The course didn't deliver the main message I was searching for. I hoped to find a more concise and direct material for each topic. The Genetic Course did not help at all for what I was searching. I was hoping for high-yield topics and a more direct delivery of the material. We have too little time.
Cannot give six Stars because it doesn't exits
von Vivian D. am 06. November 2016 für ANS - Pharmacology
The course is highly organized and given in a concise way. Also, the practice question and the discussion inside the video are very helpful.
Amazing
von Sally A. am 19. Oktober 2016 für Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
It is amazing. I understood in 10 minutes what I couldn't understand for days. It would have been better if it explains more about the subjects but even though it's good.

It is very good, I like the power point slides and picture etc.
Superb clarity
von Laura O. am 03. Oktober 2016 für Membrane Physiology
Dr. Wilson is very clear slow enough yet very focused and has concern with the understanding of the learner.
He is super and goes to demonstrate as an example that fast-talking is not necessarily better.
Simple and fast
von Sofia B. am 19. September 2016 für Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics

Best lecturer so far
von Laura O. am 16. August 2016 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
He challenges you beyond what you expect. Keeps your mind working and relating the concept at hand to other crucial points; thinking on your feet is great.
Content&Delivery
von Darius D. am 15. August 2016 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
The professor seems to be an expert in his field however his speaks a little slurred and sound monotonic. Otherwise its great!

von iutzi o. am 04. Juli 2016 für Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
It is a great course with a great teacher! all the amount of information and just the detail that you need for the exam. I am beginning like the pharmacology due to his clinical and very practical approach. the tips for the exam are a plus++
Clear explanations
von Owain B. am 19. Juni 2016 für Cellular Pathology: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
Excellent principles of cellular pathology; some of the pharmacology was very US-specific but that's only to be expected. Greatly enhanced my understanding of cancer, genetic faults and other cellular pathologies in general, felt much more comfortable with my upcoming exams.
