Excellent Presentation
von Mike P. am 01. January 2025 für Alpha- and Beta-Blockers
Dr. Shukle consistently delivers highly educational presentations, regardless of the topic. He effectively relates his content to real-world clinical practice, providing useful context for his audience. Additionally, Dr. Shukle has a knack for incorporating well-placed humor into his presentations, which I find refreshing. Anyone who has had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Shukle as a preceptor or mentor should consider themselves fortunate.

Amazing lecture
von Peddi A. am 25. October 2023 für ATP Synthase
The video by Lecturio provides an excellent overview of the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis, two of the most important metabolic processes in the cell. These processes work together to produce ATP, the cell's energy currency.
One of the most interesting things about the electron transport chain is that it is a highly efficient way to convert energy from food into ATP. The chain uses the energy from NADH and FADH2, two electron carriers that are produced during glycolysis and the Krebs cycle, to pump protons across the inner mitochondrial membrane. This creates a proton gradient, which is like a dam holding back a reservoir of energy.
The ATP synthase enzyme then uses the energy of the proton gradient to drive the synthesis of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate. This process is called chemiosmosis.
The video does a great job of explaining the complex steps of the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis in a clear and concise way. It also provides helpful animations and diagrams that illustrate the process.
Errors in the Video
von Peddi A. am 16. October 2023 für Fatty Acid Synthesis
I've reviewed the Video, and while it provides a comprehensive overview, there are a few points that need clarification.
"Fatty acid synthesis doesn't occur in the mitochondrion; it occurs in the cytoplasm, sequestered from fatty acid oxidation, simplifying the regulation of the two pathways."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis indeed occurs in the cytoplasm, separate from fatty acid oxidation that takes place in mitochondria. This separation allows for streamlined regulation, ensuring the balance between synthesis and breakdown.
"Fatty acid synthesis is chemically similar to the reverse of oxidation, involving joining, reduction, loss of water, and a final reduction, making it essentially the reverse of oxidation."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis does indeed involve joining of acetyl and malonyl units, reduction steps, and removal of water, making it similar but not exactly the reverse of oxidation. The subtle differences in the chemical steps are crucial for the controlled synthesis of fatty acids.
"The enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase is regulated through phosphorylation by AMP-activated protein kinase and allosteric binding of citrate, ensuring the balance between synthesis and cellular energy levels."
Clarification: Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, a key enzyme in fatty acid synthesis, is indeed regulated through phosphorylation and allosteric binding of citrate. This regulation allows cells to respond to energy demands, modulating fatty acid production accordingly.
"Fatty acid synthesis involves a series of steps catalyzed by the multifunctional enzyme fatty acid synthase, where individual activities within the enzyme complex work together, ensuring efficient fatty acid production."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthase, a multi functional enzyme complex, plays a central role in fatty acid synthesis. Its individual activities work in harmony within the complex, allowing for the sequential addition of carbon units and the creation of fatty acids up to 16 carbons in length.

Illuminating
von Varvara K. am 28. August 2019 für pKa and Drug Solubility – Absorption and Distribution | Pharmacokinetics (PK)
I found this lecture illuminating.
I think adding an image might help to clarify the solubility issue:
AH can diffuse through lipid bilayer, but is less soluble in water, so would become "trapped" in urine, and the inverse for bases: B form being soluble in lipids, but not in water.
Thank you for the great lecture!

Good detail, but missed earlier regions of Leukocyte migration
von Matthieu M. am 19. March 2019 für Acute inflammatory, Type I interferon and NK cell responses
When you touched on leukocyte migration, you began at the stage of "adhesion" when many medical students should include the first two steps before this. It should include Margination, where leukocytes follow lamina flow while being pushed by erythrocytes onto the barriers of the endothelial cells, then rolling, where selectin proteins are adhesion molecules which weakly attach onto these leukocytes causing them to "roll" .... and then do i believe you should be able to talk about the adhesion and transmigration parts. If you could add this in, it would be quite useful. especially because many students are trusting these lecture to have the utmost information. Thank you very much.
When you spoke on the topic itself though, it was quite organised and detailed.

von Matthieu M. am 22. February 2019 für Organization of the Immune System
I enjoyed many other lecture series here on Lecturio, but thus far, immunology is my favourite and this is purely due to Dr. Delves. Following Immunology studies in medical school, I greatly tested it, but after listening to only a few of his lectures, I've not only learned to love immunology, but I'm excited to dive into it further. Thank you.

Amazing and I learned more from his videos then in class.
Logical organization!
von Lauren B. am 29. January 2019 für Phagocytic Cells
My last block contained a lot of immunology, and I did very poorly on the exam. I had an incredibly difficult time teasing out the most important information and organizing the immune response in a logical fashion. All the terms seemed jumbled in my head. This block is infectious disease, and requires building on the foundation of immunology--so I need to rebuild my foudation :p After watched just 3-4 of the Lecturio videos, I immensely regret not using it earlier. Thank you Dr. Delves, for being clear and logical it what is a very difficult and complex subject!
good explanation
von Vanessa O. am 29. January 2019 für Golgi Apparatus
I chosed to give it 4 stars, because I loved the way the lecture was eplained. I am not a native english speaker and therefor prefered the rather slow speed of speach.
unfortunatelly there have not been any Control questions and that is why I only rated this lecture with 4 out of 5 stars.

von Josefine C. am 07. January 2019 für Bronchogenic Carcinoma, Osteogenic Sarcoma & Grading– Neoplasia
As a Danish medical student, with English only as my second language, I admit, I had to spend some time "tuning in" on Dr. Raj's way of speaking. See, he's an extremely fast speaker, but as I did get used to this, I really learned to appreciate his way of teaching. Actually, his way of speaking kind of peaks my attention and focus, since my brain has to work harder for it.
Thanks, Dr.!

The lecture is discouraging:
von Sunil K. am 02. January 2019 für Cell Cycle Controls
The lecturer did not appear confident looking into notes too often. Too many hand gestures are a distraction especially when not pointing to the stuff on the slides.
The material was not presented in an easy or simple way. Made it more complicated that it actually is. I feel difficulty in continuing to the next lectures without understanding this.

Importance of knowledge with clinical application.
von SULBHA S. am 15. September 2018 für Benign Neoplasm and Teratoma – Neoplasia
I love the clinical application. It makes it so much more exciting to learn and remember because as Dr Carlos Raj points out it's not just memorising. I must say his way of speaking makes it even more exciting :) On a serious note though-mentioning how serious it is to act on dysplasia or when the BM is involved-we should be saying omg, and not looking at him. Looking forward to more lectures-wish he was lecturing the subjects to keep that interest and significance of the subject and our job.

Amazing!!!
von Güney G. am 13. June 2018 für Immune Response
For many years, I have read lots of textbooks and lots of lecture slides to learn immunology but it was always confusing and none of them knows how to begin immunology. The immune system is a kind of spider web which has no begin and no end. On the other hand, Dr Delves is a very smart academician who found a way how to chance a spider web into a linear and understandable structure. If you need to learn immunology, don't waste your time beginning with memorizing every immune cell, every receptor. Instead, just leave yourself into the arms of Lecturio by Prof Peter Delves, Lecturio definitely takes you to your goals for sure if your goal related to immunology.
Excellent professor and great beginning for immunology
von Güney G. am 13. June 2018 für Introduction: Pathogens and the Immune System
We need a cloned one or twin of Prof Delves for Istanbul Technical University. I began to learn immunology with this lesson and just with 8 days of his video lessons I succeed to pass molecular immunology that's the lesson I hadn't passed for many years. I am grateful for you Dr Delves. The chaotic structure of immunology gets easy by your lessons. Not only your lessons made me be graduated from my undergraduate education but also you changed my mind about immunology. I like it very much after your lessons and the beginning of the journey was this lesson.
Congratulations !!

I cannot believe I am just now finding this resource during my dedicated Step 1 period. However, I am so glad that I found it now, right at the beginning of Step prep, rather than later. I plan to use this as one of my main resources for the remainder of time up until my exam. I realized while reading First Aid that, although I had known the subjects very well at one point, that my foundation was not as solid as it once was. This is perfect for reviewing and providing the big picture for everything. It's also an amazing resource for providing the "why" and "how" behind all the small factoids written in First Aid which is just what I need. It's so much easier to retain the information when you actually understand what is going on rather than memorizing a 650+ page book of bullet point lists/facts. This is great. I was a huge fan of Boards and Beyond, but I have since ditched that resource and am fully focusing on this one since this seems a lot more comprehensive and better taught (though Dr. Ryan has also done an amazing job too). Thank you guys so much for coming out with such a well thought out and developed and thorough resource. This is going to make board prep so much smoother. If I end up scoring highly on Step 1, I will make sure to write a review on Reddit, SDN, etc raving about Lecturio.

Disappointed with lack of detail
von Kerry T. am 29. November 2017 für Acute Inflammation
A very concise lecture but too much so. I was really hoping to learn more about mechanisms and detail. For example, there was no detail provided about the mechanisms involved with how vascular permeability increases. There was no explanation for what cells produce bradykinin and how this causes vasodilation. This was not advanced enough for medical school.
