The most important part of this lecture in my opinion is the analogies that Dr. Georgina offers. It really help us to understand for example when she associated the Golgi Complex with a Fedex facility, or when she connects the fact that liver cells have more SER since one of its important functions is detoxification.

I like how she breaks down the information in small and easy to understand pieces. There's no need to overcomplicate things like other science teachers love to do.

I've reviewed the Video, and while it provides a comprehensive overview, there are a few points that need clarification. "Fatty acid synthesis doesn't occur in the mitochondrion; it occurs in the cytoplasm, sequestered from fatty acid oxidation, simplifying the regulation of the two pathways." Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis indeed occurs in the cytoplasm, separate from fatty acid oxidation that takes place in mitochondria. This separation allows for streamlined regulation, ensuring the balance between synthesis and breakdown. "Fatty acid synthesis is chemically similar to the reverse of oxidation, involving joining, reduction, loss of water, and a final reduction, making it essentially the reverse of oxidation." Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis does indeed involve joining of acetyl and malonyl units, reduction steps, and removal of water, making it similar but not exactly the reverse of oxidation. The subtle differences in the chemical steps are crucial for the controlled synthesis of fatty acids. "The enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase is regulated through phosphorylation by AMP-activated protein kinase and allosteric binding of citrate, ensuring the balance between synthesis and cellular energy levels." Interesting. I have tries to learn this about 2-3 times but never quiet stuck in my mind. Too easy to forget why an enzyme does this or that, however Dr.Kevins way of sharing the WHY this is significant really helped conndct the dots.

This topic is OVERLY simplified. It needs more in-depth explaination, which she claimed to offer later. But this brief section creates even more confusion... Maybe it is better to do a PROPER introduction, or just cut this one out... Also, she herself seems to be unsure and confused. I am not sure what her profession is, but DNA doesn't seem to be a topic, which she should lecture on... In the middle of the video she just blanked, and kind of skipped on some points... (That's not the first time or first lecture that she does that...) P.S. The powerpoint is also not accurate... The coding strand around 0:52 is indicated as template strand... This lecture is quite disappointing, and frankly, a very low quality compare to other Lecturio's lectures.

I still don't understand. I have played the video so many times. Maybe its just a very hard concept.

She didn't talk about the template strand. the prof fumbled with the coding strand and im actually confused if the coding strand, or the tremplate strand matches the sequence of the mRNA. She definitely seems disorganized. It didn't flow at all.

Before Lecturio I struggled with comprehending the mechanism of proteases and enzyme kinetics. Dr. Ahern brilliantly & easily explained these concepts in less than 5 minutes. I am currently in a graduate program for Medical Sciences, we have cumulative exams every quarter & I was just memorizing the info but now I finally understand. I recommend Lecturio to pre-meds, MCAT, and Med students.

She explains good and the material is authentic. It is helping me alot, since I was hospitalised in my recent classes.

This is completely inadequate for the questions posed. The first question gives "you observed red gnomes outside the box on the left for both pH and HCO3" and asks for the condition. Verbatim from the lecture ‘’Respiratory alkalosis’’. Why? Cos there are two gnomes on one side." Yet the answer is metabolic acidosis.

Really found this clear and I have learned that there are compartments of stem cells in our body (intestine and perycites)

The lecturer did not appear confident looking into notes too often. Too many hand gestures are a distraction especially when not pointing to the stuff on the slides. The material was not presented in an easy or simple way. Made it more complicated that it actually is. I feel difficulty in continuing to the next lectures without understanding this.

I feel like I'm in good hands with Dr. Raj! I especially like how he comes back to a point multiple times to emphasize it/make it stick.

I love the clinical application. It makes it so much more exciting to learn and remember because as Dr Carlos Raj points out it's not just memorising. I must say his way of speaking makes it even more exciting :) On a serious note though-mentioning how serious it is to act on dysplasia or when the BM is involved-we should be saying omg, and not looking at him. Looking forward to more lectures-wish he was lecturing the subjects to keep that interest and significance of the subject and our job.

In terms of studying for something like USMLE, brief intro is fine! Such topics will not be tested on the exam but are necessary to build foundations for other future topics. If you are studying for other exams, this whole module may be a bit light on key information. Great as a refresher though!

This is not a USMLE 1 focused topic, an important material for the step, it's so superficial either the question that is a first order question. Need to going deep in the topics, we're not an undergraduate students.

First of all I would like to say that I really appreciate all of the effort by the professors and Lecturio to do great lectures, however, I would like to say, as well, that you need to focus on the exam format (In this case - USMLE Step 1). For example, in this lecture it was asked: "Which of the following is NOT a lysosome related disorder?" that is pretty good, because it has a clinical context with the subject, however this " lysosome related disorder" have never been taught by Professor Cornwall.

I liked the lecture and the diagrams, I can put 5 stars yet because I am unsure how relevant everything is. Pretty basic biochem, but it was a good refresher. The diagrams are helpful.

I cannot believe I am just now finding this resource during my dedicated Step 1 period. However, I am so glad that I found it now, right at the beginning of Step prep, rather than later. I plan to use this as one of my main resources for the remainder of time up until my exam. I realized while reading First Aid that, although I had known the subjects very well at one point, that my foundation was not as solid as it once was. This is perfect for reviewing and providing the big picture for everything. It's also an amazing resource for providing the "why" and "how" behind all the small factoids written in First Aid which is just what I need. It's so much easier to retain the information when you actually understand what is going on rather than memorizing a 650+ page book of bullet point lists/facts. This is great. I was a huge fan of Boards and Beyond, but I have since ditched that resource and am fully focusing on this one since this seems a lot more comprehensive and better taught (though Dr. Ryan has also done an amazing job too). Thank you guys so much for coming out with such a well thought out and developed and thorough resource. This is going to make board prep so much smoother. If I end up scoring highly on Step 1, I will make sure to write a review on Reddit, SDN, etc raving about Lecturio.

I agree that it was brief if someone was looking for something more comprehensive. It was sufficient for me as I only required this to understand one lecture slide however not enough questions.

The material covered a wide variety and having a non-science background it is clear and easy to understand.

Doctor Ahren. Great explanations and enhances my knowledge in biochemistry, i´d rather reccomend you tu use a lower velocity on your explanations because some of the students are foreigners and they probably may lose the idea. Nevertheless i´m completely satisfied with your video lectures.

The Good: Lecture: 5/5 Amazing Lecture! I learned a lot! The Not so good: Quiz:2/5 Only 1 question....and was not as specific as I would like it to have been. Perhaps consider having at least 50% of the terms discussed included in the Quiz.

Wow! Never thought I’d be amazed by the clarity and succintness of the discussion. Packs into a few minutes what would take a four hour lecture to discuss. Defintely recommended these lectures to my friends who are struggling with biochemistry and don’t want to use the books so much.

I find his lectures natural and easy to follow. He tells us areas we must take note of and what we absolutely need to remember. Complicated aspects are broken down and summarised simply. Will continue to listen to these lectures.

I disagree with the comment below. I think he is a very good lecturer. Clear and concise. Yes, he does he have his unique gestures and tones, but so what? It's just different from the traditional, not wrong or anything. I found his lecture interesting. I don't think he was mocking anyone.

l am a pre-med student and after watching this lecture I decided I was definitely subscribing! Everything was explained clearly and I understood the concept completely.

This course is very well organized. I am doing all my best to learn from it as much as I can.

Both comprehensive and simple lectures, could use some more medical/clinical correlations, though.

It is fantastic to have a lecturer making a diffucult subject easy. Now i can not wait diving into some hardcore books about enzymes. Watching an inspiring teacher really makes a difference. This guy is also rather fast talking so you dont need to speed up, witch i do quite often. Also the pop quiz in the end just makes it so much more fun. It becomes a game. And thats great and enhances long term memory.

On the slide about respiratory compensation for metabolic acidosis, the compensation slope with decrease Pco2 level has a PCO2 value of 60 which should be 20. Becauase in respiratory Compensation for MA PCO2 slightly decreases That is just a typo, but can been confusing The lecture itself is very good

Great content but overwhelming. Too much details on the receptors and molecules got me lost in understanding the overall immune response. I appreciate the enthusiasm in detailing everything but the USMLE is devised to evaluate generalists and not immunologists.

Dr. Wilson does an excellent job in breaking down concepts of acid-base balance in the body and making it plain. He also provides some additional tricks/tools that you may not get in your regular lectures, but will definitely help on an exam. These lectures are top notch, just excellent!
