The electronic structure of atoms accounts for a great variety of the microscopic and macroscopic phenomena that we observe in the world around us. This structure governs each atom’s interaction with others. Atoms are often thought of as fundamental building blocks in our world, as their structure also governs the laws of our own physical interactions with others and our environment. Therefore, it is important to understand concepts such as the Bohr model of the atom, the structure and shapes of different energy levels and orbitals, the organization of the periodic table, and the uncertainty principle—to name just a few.
