Interpersonal violence (IPV) is the intentional use of physical force or power, whether threatened or actual, to harm individuals within personal relationships or communities, encompassing physical, sexual, psychological, and neglect-based forms across the lifespan.
The classification and scope of IPV are examined alongside its physical and psychosocial consequences and the nurse's role in screening, mandated reporting, and trauma-informed response. Nursing students build pattern-recognition skills and professional judgment to identify IPV in clinical settings and respond safely and ethically.
