Collaboration in nursing describes the development of interprofessional, intraprofessional, nurse–patient, and interorganizational partnerships that carry joint responsibility for achieving patient-, family-, and community-specific health outcomes.
The definition and theoretical foundations of collaboration are examined, including Kim's Theory of Collaborative Decision-Making and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative Model. Nursing students develop the ability to recognize and practice collaboration across all care settings, from bedside handoffs and rapid response teams to shared governance and cross-organizational coalitions.
