DNA strands undergo changes or damage due to multiple causes. Changes in a specific gene are referred to as mutations, which can prove advantageous in the form of adaptations to the environment, or disadvantageous by producing disease. A complex of enzymes is in place to repair damage in DNA strands when it arises.
In this course, the student will be introduced to the types of genetic mutations and the mechanisms of DNA repair.
For optimal comprehension, the student will be required to be familiar with the basic concepts of college-grade biology and chemistry.
