Non-verbal – viewers form an instant judgement when they first see you whether they like you or not
Verbal – obviously it's what you say that matters

If you have the choice, is it better to do an interview in advance (pre-recorded) or live?

What is usually the appropriate level of energy to put into a TV interview?

More energy than usual but not too over-the-top, otherwise you will look ridiculous.
As much energy as possible. You are in showbusiness! You want to shine!
You should be calm and authoritative if you want to be taken seriously.
