Venous Drainage of the Head

00:01 Now that we've seen the arterial supply, let's take a look at the venous drainage of the head.

00:07 In order to understand the venous drainage of the head, we're gonna have to go back to the parotid gland.

00:13 And that's because the product gland is going to contain one of the most important sources of venous drainage of the head and neck.

00:20 And that's going to be the retromandibular vein.

00:23 Of course retromandibular is very descriptive telling you it's sitting along the posterior aspect of the mandible.

00:29 The retromandibular vein is formed from the superficial temporal vein joining the maxillary vein.

00:37 But the retromandibular vein is going to have two divisions: an anterior and a posterior division.

00:44 The posterior division of this retromandibular vein is going to join the posterior auricular vein and drain through the external jugular vein, which is going to be external to this sternocleidomastoid muscle.
