by Carlo Raj, MD

The stomach is a J-shaped sac connecting the esophagus above and the small intestine below. The duodenum defines the initial portion of the small intestine, from the pylorus to the ligament of Treitz. These organs serve to digest food and absorb nutrients. Duodenal and stomach disorders are extremely common, leading to significant impacts on quality of life among the general population. Problems may arise from a number of different mechanisms and lead to a variety of symptoms. Tumors may arise as well. This course covers the extensive pathology affecting the stomach and duodenum.
