Now let's take a look at
the dermatomes of the head.
00:05
We'll start by looking at the
facial aspect of the head.
00:09
Superiorly,
down over the eyes, end
of the bridge of the nose,
we have dermatome innervation
provided by the ophthalmic nerve.
00:18
Just below that,
coming over the cheeks
to the upper lip,
we have innervation provided
by the maxillary nerve.
00:27
Then finally below that,
going over the jaw,
we have the mandibular nerve.
00:32
And so together, these are the three
divisions of the trigeminal nerve.
00:37
V1, V2 And V3.
00:41
However, the posterior
aspect of the head
is going to be innervated
by cervical spinal nerves.
00:48
So we'll swing around to a posterior
view to see those dermatomes.
00:53
We start superiorly with
C2 and C3, C4, and C5.
01:00
And you might be wondering,
where's the dermatome
provided by C1
and it turns out that C1 doesn't
provide any dermatome innervation.
01:08
C1 is actually motor nerve only.
01:11
So it only innervates muscles and
doesn't provide any sensation.
