00:00 Time for one of your favorites. I know you love this kind of stuff. We're going to do a select all that apply question. Alright? So, you're a nurse, you're a nurse preceptor who is reviewing the unique characteristics of the liver with this new novice nurse. Which of the following statements would be appropriate to include in your discussion? Please select all that apply.

00:22 Ugh, these are the worst kind of questions, aren't they? But you know the step. First of all, let's do the topic of the question. So, who am I? I'm a nurse preceptor, and who else is in the question, it's a novice nurse. Okay, so I know the players. I'm a nurse preceptor, I've got a novice nurse, and I'm going over the unique characteristics of the liver. So which of the following statements would be appropriate to include? So I'm looking for things that are correct about the unique functions of the liver. Ready? Let's look at them. Okay, A, it's this largest solid organ in the body. Now, when you do a select all that apply question, you treat each question individually by itself and have to make a call. So, is the liver the largest solid organ in the body? Yup, I'm going to leave that one in. The liver has 2 major sources of blood supply. Yes, it does. It has both the portal vein and the aorta, the hepatic arteries. So, okay, I'm going to leave that in. Alright, so I've already left 2 in, so that's usually about the right number for select all. No, don't let your mind go there. You treat each individual answer as a separate question. What you don't want to do is base your answer on what you think is the average number of selections for a select all that apply. Select all that apply questions can range from 1 right answer to all the answers being correct. So, keep that in mind because NCSBN has determined that it can be one or all of the answers, so you have to look at each option as a separate question. So, so far we said yes, it's the largest solid organ in the body, then we said yes to it has 2 major sources of blood supply because we know it has the portal vein and we know that it has the hepatic artery off the aorta. Yeah, we know that it carries out over 500 essential tasks. That's a yes. It's the only visceral organ that can regenerate completely. Yeah, that's a yes, and the organ most likely to suffer with alcohol abuse, yes.

02:45 So, when you look back over our answer choice, this is one of those questions where everyone of the select all that apply answers are correct.
