00:01 Welcome! In this lecture we will discuss the respiratory system.

00:07 The major functions of the respiratory system includes supplying our bodies with oxygen from cellular respiration as well as disposing of the carbon dioxide waste product that comes from cellular respiration.

00:20 The respiratory system and the circulatory system are very intimately coupled with each other in this process.

00:29 Other functions of the respiratory system also include our sense of smell or olfaction as well as speech.

00:38 There are four main processes involved in respiration.

00:43 First, we had the pulmonary ventilation or what we refer to as breathing and this is going to be the movement of air in and out of our lungs.

00:53 The respiratory system, involves external respiration and this process we're going to be exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and the blood.

01:08 As I said earlier, the respiratory system and the circulatory system are very intimately and coupled to each other.

01:16 So in the circulatory system, we're actually going to be transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide in our blood.

01:25 Also in the circulatory system, we undergo something called internal respiration where we're going to be exchanging these gases between our systemic blood vessels and our tissues.

The presenter is good at delivering her topic. This is the only video I've watched that has a good explanation.
