00:01 So to conclude our lecture on the muscular system, recall that the muscular system is made up of three different types of muscles.

00:09 We have skeletal muscles, cardiac muscles, and smooth muscles.

00:14 Skeletal muscle cells are referred to as skeletal muscle fibers and are multinucleated and striated.

00:23 The major functional properties of our skeletal muscle fibers include their electrical excitability, their contractility, their extensibility, and their elasticity.

00:37 The contractility of our muscle fibers involves the sliding of microfilaments in the skeletal muscle fiber.

00:46 Contraction is coupled with electrical excitation of the skeletal muscle fiber.

00:54 Impulses come from the nervous system to the muscular system at the neuromascular junction.

01:03 Cardiac muscles differ from skeletal muscles as they are involuntary muscles.

01:09 While there are some similarities, cardiac muscles also exhibit differences in their structure and their function.

01:17 Finally, smooth muscles are also going to differ from our skeletal muscles.

01:23 While they are also involuntary like our cardiac muscles, they use different regulatory proteins during the process of a contraction compared to skeletal muscles.

01:36 This concludes our lecture on the muscular system.

    01:40 Thank you for listening.
