The skin is the largest organ in the body and can be subject to both external and internal insults. Skin disorders account for a large percentage of primary care and emergency department visits, yet most medical students are not given an extensive education on the manifestations of such disorders.
It is likely that you, your family members, or your close friends have been afflicted with a skin disorder, whether it is acne, rosacea, or even cutaneous lupus. No matter what sort of clinician you become, a basic understanding of skin disorders and pathophysiology will likely prove beneficial.
