Layers of the Skin (Nursing)

00:01 In this lecture, we will be discussing the first of the 11 organ system - the integumentary system.

00:11 First, the integumentary system consist of the skin.

00:16 The skin has two major layers.

00:19 The epidermal layer or the epidermis which is the most superficial layer and the part that you can see with the naked eye, and the dermis or the deep layer which is going to be the part that you can't see, or the connective tissue layer of the skin.

00:36 Recall from a previous chapter that the skin is an example of a cutaneous membrane which contains an epithelial layer which are epidermis and a connective tissue layer which is the dermis.

00:52 Deep to the dermis, we also have a layer referred to as the hypodermis or the subcutaneous layer.

01:00 This layer is not a part of the skin but it is actually very important as it serves as the connection between the layers of the skin and the tissues beneath
