00:01 So along with congestive heart failure, there are other defects of the heart.

00:06 Let's describe some examples of congenital heart defects.

00:11 A congenital heart defect is a defect that is normally caused by genetic reasons and passed down or inherited.

00:18 So first, we have coarctation of the aorta.

00:23 This occurs when part of the aorta is narrowed.

00:27 And because of this narrowing, there is an increase in the workload of the left ventricle because the aortic pressure is going to be much higher than that of a normal aorta.

00:40 A second congenital congenital heart defect is Tetralogy of Fallot.

00:45 This includes multiple defects that are going to affect the ability of the heart to perform efficiently.

00:53 This includes the pulmonary trunk being too narrow and the pulmonary valve being stenosed, hypertrophied right ventricle, ventricular septal defect, and the aorta being open from both ventricles.

01:09 Again, all four of these defects put together puts a huge burden on the heart to be able to pump efficiently.
