Now what do we do
for treating cholecystitis?
Well, if it's not infected the
first thing is dietary changes.
00:06
We're going to encourage
the patient to limit dairy
because it's got a lot of fat.
00:10
Wanted to let dairy fried foods
or any foods with higher fat
that stimulates the patient's
gallbladder.
00:17
Now the amount and types of food
may vary somewhat between patients,
but for sure high fat foods
are usually the trigger.
00:26
What if it progresses,
now it is acute or it's infected.
00:30
Were going to need to treat
the patient with antibiotics
and have to consider
removing the gallbladder.
00:36
Now cholecystectomy means
ectomy means removal
of the gallbladder.
00:42
So they do that with
either a laparoscopic procedure
or they'll do with an open
abdominal surgery.
00:48
Laparoscopic is all
done with scopes
and they can kind of cut it up
and pull it out.
00:53
But if you have
an open abdominal surgery,
then there has to be made
an abdominal incision.
00:58
It's a little rougher for
the patient to recover from.
