00:01 Now, let's have a look at the vagina.

00:03 And specifically have a look at the fallacies which are important as they run up towards the uterus.

00:08 So here we can see the vagina positioned posterior to the bladder.

00:12 It has an external vaginal opening, and then it becomes the continuous with the uterus as the cervix.

00:19 We have the vaginal canal here next to the opening.

00:23 That then has a slight dilation known as the vaginal vault.

00:26 And that is where sperm will be expelled into during ejaculation.

00:31 We then have the vaginal fallacies that surround the cervix as it's protruded into this vaginal vault.

00:38 Anteriorly, we have the anterior fornix.

00:40 We then have a lateral and posterior fornix.

00:43 And these are completely continuous as a ring around that protruding cervix into the vaginal vault.

00:50 So sperm are going to be expelled into the vaginal vault during ejaculation and then they can occupy this space as they enter into the cervix to move into the uterus.

01:01 So here we can see highlighted the anterior wall of the vagina which is running up alongside the base of the bladder and also the urethra which we can see here.

01:11 We can then have the lateral wall of the vagina, and here we can see the posterior wall of the vagina.

01:17 The lateral wall of the vagina is going to be closely positioned to elevate the ani which helps to hold as a pelvic floor muscle hold the vagina in place.

01:26 We'll come back to that when we look at the pelvic floor in more detail later on.

01:30 And then the posterior wall is going to be in close position to the rectum.
