00:00 Let me show you some examples.

00:02 So, you know, these are the four enzymes that are found in the liver.

00:05 You know, what the normal values are.

00:07 These are enzymes that help break down proteins and they have a really important role in liver function and bone development.

00:14 So they have increased levels, this could indicate there's an underlying medical condition and it probably involves the liver, the bones, or the gallbladder.

00:24 So see we use these tests not just for cholecystitis that can tell us other things about what's going on with your patient.

00:31 Now ALT elevations are most often caused by NAFLD or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or alcoholic liver disease.

00:41 So an ALT is elevated, we know, we have to rule out and think what's the implications of liver disease.

00:49 ALP elevations can be an indication of bone metastasis in a patient with cancer.

00:55 So my patient may not be coming in for cholecystitis.

00:58 But if I know they have cancer and I see that the ALP levels are going up, going to start thinking about metastasis.

01:04 That's when that pain assessment is so critically important.

01:08 So that wraps up the liver enzymes.

01:11 I hope the next time you take a look at those, you don't let it overwhelm you.

01:16 Take our notes with you, compare the reasons, look at the whole clinical picture, and you're going to get a great idea of what's going on in that system.
