Components and Structure of the Diencephalon

00:00 Welcome to this presentation on the diencephalon. First, I want you to understand the anatomic components that contribute to the formation of the diencephalon.

00:18 The first is the thalamus that we see labeled in this image. Second structure that's a component of diencephalon is the hypothalamus. We also have the epithalamus, a prominent structure here and that's specifically identified by the label is that of the pineal gland. Other structures contribute to that, other nuclei that we'll define later.

00:51 There's one other member, unfortunately not shown on this image that belongs to diencephalon and that is the subthalamus. Here is an MRI that is demonstrating two of the components of the diencephalon, one of which is the thalamus. That is the structure that we see here. It's in a dark gray area. We can also make out to our advantage the hypothalamus and that's that area here that's lighter in gray.
