00:01 In this section, we’ll take a look at neoplastic and premalignant disorders of the skin.

00:07 There is much to talk about and I’m going to walk you through the most organized and most common presentations on the board and wards as I have been doing for the entire course.

    00:17 Let’s take a look.

00:20 We will begin by looking at a benign fibrous histiocytoma.

00:26 So whenever you hear the term histiocytes, you should be thinking about the skin, right? Here’s a benign fibrous disorder, dermatofibroma.

00:35 So, what’s happening here? Well, really, in terms of cause, not exactly sure apart from the fact that look for the history of your patient.

00:42 Maybe perhaps a female who is shaving her leg and, when doing so, created a nick.

00:49 And then this aberrant nick during the healing process didn’t take place properly resulting what’s known as a dermatofibroma.

00:57 Bug bites, shaving is your most common presentation and history that you want to take a look at for your diagnosis of dermatofibroma.

01:08 Morphology: What are you going to find? Small, firm -- firm -- indurated but non-fixed papule.

01:16 Often dimples with lateral compression.

    01:19 Keep that in mind.

01:20 Remember, what’s the history here? Maybe bug bites, trauma, shaving.

    01:29 Demographics of dermatofibroma.

01:31 Commonly seen on the legs of young women.

01:35 No treatment required because it’s benign.

    01:36 Thank goodness.
