Respiratory Failures

by Carlo Raj, MD

The respiratory system provides oxygen to and removes carbon dioxide from the body. The failure to perform either of these functions results in the clinical signs and symptoms of respiratory failure. Respiratory failure can be categorized into two broad categories. Type 1, or hypoxic respiratory failure, is due to inadequate ability of the lungs to provide oxygen to the body. Type 2, or hypercapnic respiratory failure, stems from an inability of the respiratory system to remove carbon dioxide efficiently and effectively from the body. Regardless of the cause, respiratory failure often requires mechanical ventilation, the principles of which are likely to be relevant at some point of every medical professional’s training.

Not for nursing students. This guy totally does not keep my interest and he assumes that you know a lot of things that I have never heard of. Horrible lecturer and not for nursing students.

This is definitely not for RN students. This guy just confused me even more. Stop throwing the medical content into the nursing section.
