Urinary Tract Physiology

by Thad Wilson, PhD

Renal physiology describes the processes of blood filtration and clearance for hydrophilic waste products, blood-pressure regulation, acid-base balance, and the stimulation of hematopoiesis through the secretion of hematopoietin. The kidneys are a prime example of the maintenance of homeostasis.

In this course, the student will be introduced to the physiology of glomerular filtration, the mechanisms for the mobilization of solutes and water in the renal tubules, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), and the concentration of urine.

For optimal comprehension, the student must have a preliminary understanding of molecular and cellular biology, emphasizing biochemistry; the histology of the glomeruli and tubules; and the phenomena that occur as a consequence of concentration gradients.

Providing feedback as requested with the sole goal of helping you improve the service. Generally - I like it, but my impression is that simple things are explained in great detail, whereas the explanation of most complex items is rushed and insufficient. I had to search elsewhere for information.
