    00:00 Check out that liver.

    00:02 I love this graphic.

    00:04 I think it's hilarious.

00:06 But the first step is you have to fix the underlying disorder.

00:10 What is it? How did this liver get damaged? Is it alcoholic liver disease? Is it Hepatitis B? Is it autoimmune hepatitis? That means the body is turning on its own liver. Right? Itis means inflammation, autoimmune hepatitis means my own body is turning on my liver and it's misidentifying it as an enemy that's why it's attacking it.

00:34 But before I go on let's talk about something that's actually not my favorite part of nursing, patients with liver disease may have some lifestyle habits or choices that you don't agree with.

00:47 What I want you to keep in mind is our job is not to judge.

00:51 Our job is to help them take the next step toward health within their setting.

00:58 So if they have liver disease because struggle with alcoholism don't judge their lifestyle help them get healthier if they have Hepatitis B, because of some other risky behaviors don't judge their lifestyle help them get healthier.

01:14 So one of the most important things you can give to your patient is respect.

01:19 Let them know they're valued and that you're here to take care of them not to judge.

01:24 Whatever ended up in this place, okay? So it's not about how they got here.

01:30 The idea is this is where we are as your nurse, I care about you and I want to help you move to the next level in health.
