So, how can we help our patients?
What should we educate them about their gallbladder health?
Well, maintaining a healthy way is the best place to start, pretty much for everything,
but we know if they're not obese or overweight, they're gonna have lower cholesterol levels.
00:15
One thing to avoid? Rapid weight loss.
00:18
Remember, 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy pace for losing weight.
00:22
Eating an anti-inflammatory diet is recommended for everyone,
but if we're trying to avoid the -itis's, it's particularly helpful.
00:32
It's also important for the patient and all of us to get regular exercise.
00:36
So, nothing up here sounds surprising, right?
These are actually four really good guidelines for health, for anyone,
but they're particularly good for somebody with gallbladder disease.
00:48
Oh, everybody's favorite topic. Let's talk about diet recommendations for gallbladder health.
00:55
You're gonna encourage the patient to reduce their intake of fats.
00:59
We want them to avoid high fat, greasy, and fried foods.
01:04
So, this means no eating at the county fair.
01:07
You want them to add fiber to their diet with fresh vegetables and whole grains.
01:12
You want to eat several small meals per day because smaller meals are easier for the body to digest.
01:18
Also, get them to drink a sufficient amount of water.
01:22
You want them to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day
and more if they don't have any other restrictions.
01:30
Now, if you plan to lose weight, make sure they know they need to do it slowly.
01:35
Aim for them to lose no more than 2 pounds per week
because we know that rapid weight loss will increase the risk of gallstones and other health problems.
