Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics

by Pravin Shukle, MD

Pharmacokinetics refers to how drugs interact with the human body, from their absorption to their excretion. Pharmacodynamics encompass a group of parameters that describe how the body reacts or responds to a drug. A solid grasp of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics enables clinicians to understand the most adequate administration and dosage of every pharmacological agent.

In this course, the student will be introduced to the concepts of absorption, distribution, biotransformation, drug receptors and effects, upregulation and downregulation, potency, toxicity, and elimination kinetics.

For optimal comprehension, the student is required to have a previous understanding of molecular and cell biology and physiology, with an emphasis on liver metabolism and clearance by the kidney.

A nice video
By Diego D. on 29. March 2024 for pKa and Drug Solubility – Absorption and Distribution | Pharmacokinetics (PK)

the lesson is properly given, but requires a previous base, which must be checked back in books, even that is a useful video and the content is clear enough .

Clear explanation
By Augusto Cesar N. on 11. October 2023 for Drug Distribution – Absorption and Distribution | Pharmacokinetics (PK)
