Pediatric Infectious Diseases

by Brian Alverson, MD

A pediatric infectious disease doctor specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases in the pediatric population. Children are especially susceptible to many diseases seen in adult populations because their immune systems are still developing. A thorough history and physical examination can go a long way in elucidating the underlying cause of a child’s infectious ailment. First, however, comes an understanding of the various pathologies that can manifest in a child and how they may present themselves. An extremely important point not to be overlooked is vaccination, as well as how to counsel parents on vaccination for their children, as this is one of the most effective public health tools at our disposal.

Learning for all types of learning styles
By Rose . on 05. January 2024 for Pediatric Infectious Diseases

I really appreciate how comprehensive the course is, including the power point notes and the additional resources. I also appreciate the visuals. The subject is explained very clearly, and the case examples help with applying the knowledge in the clinical setting. My NP program truly lacks lectures and lecture notes to facilitate learning, which is unfortunate. With my program, I feel I have little to no guidance other than assigned readings. Reading a whole text book doesn't help with memory retention, as people have different ways of learning. I think Lecturio does a good job at ensuring the courses are effective for all types of learners. I'm definitely going to continue using Lecturio during the duration of my program and preparation for the board exams.

Understanding that orbital cellulitis typically comes from sinus infections, whereas preseptal usually comes from the skin is helpful.
