Neurological and Musculoskeletal Disorders – Med-Surg Nursing

by Rhonda Lawes, PhD, RN

Gathering data about a patient’s neurologic status and function is a foundational nursing skill. In some occasions, nurses will have ample time to perform a more in-depth assessment; in others, nurses have to evaluate rapidly and narrow in on acute neurologic changes that are representative of emergencies.

In this course, you’ll learn about the components of a neurologic exam, how to perform a neurologic assessment of a patient, and how to assess whether a patient is experiencing a stroke.

You’ll also learn about some basic reflexes, spinal cord injuries and syndromes, and some of the chronic neurologic diseases that commonly affect adult patients.
