Female Pelvic Medicine

by Lynae Brayboy, MD

Benign gynecologic conditions constitute the majority of the general gynecologist's practice. Indeed, chronic pain, health maintenance examinations, contraceptive management, family planning issues, concerns about incontinence, adnexal masses, leiomyomata, endometriosis, and pelvic inflammatory disease are among the common reasons for gynecological visits. However, seemingly benign gynecologic pathology can also be a sign of deeper or more complicated disease—including ectopic pregnancy, intimate partner violence, and sexual violence—so it is important to recognize these signs and symptoms so as not to miss them.
