Descriptive epidemiology, as the name implies, refers to utilizing epidemiology principles to describe the burden of disease on a particular population. These include the concepts of prevalence, incidence, and mortality rate, which are recognizable even to a layperson. The purpose of this practice is to understand how a particular ailment affects a population in order to later assess which are the most effective interventions on a mass scale.
In this course, the student will be given an overview of the most important concepts in descriptive epidemiology, including measures of morbidity and mortality.
For optimal understanding, the student is required to have preliminary knowledge of the basics of epidemiology. Since some concepts may be very abstract to some, it’s encouraged to rewatch some video lectures until the concepts are fully grasped.
