Dementia

by Carlo Raj, MD

Dementia is a disease characterized by a decline in daily functioning secondary to persistent and progressive neurocognitive impairment, such as in the realm of memory or executive function. Patients with dementia have problems with cognition, behavior, and functional activities of everyday life. They also experience memory loss and lack of insight into their problems. Alzheimer disease is the prototypical disease process related to dementia, but there are many other important causes to consider as well, all of which is discussed in this course.

When I pass my neurology block next week, I’ll be sure to come back and thank Dr. Raj. If it weren’t for him, I’d still be lost and confused.
