von Adam S. am 05. Januar 2024 für Formation of the Right and Left Atria
First time watching it and it's really well explained. Some things are hard to understand, but it helps to pause and try to imagine it. Couldn't ask for more. Educating videos shouldn't be movies, pausing to understand works fantastic as everything explained makes sense.
Very well done!

Errors in the Video
von Peddi A. am 16. Oktober 2023 für Fatty Acid Synthesis
I've reviewed the Video, and while it provides a comprehensive overview, there are a few points that need clarification.
"Fatty acid synthesis doesn't occur in the mitochondrion; it occurs in the cytoplasm, sequestered from fatty acid oxidation, simplifying the regulation of the two pathways."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis indeed occurs in the cytoplasm, separate from fatty acid oxidation that takes place in mitochondria. This separation allows for streamlined regulation, ensuring the balance between synthesis and breakdown.
"Fatty acid synthesis is chemically similar to the reverse of oxidation, involving joining, reduction, loss of water, and a final reduction, making it essentially the reverse of oxidation."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthesis does indeed involve joining of acetyl and malonyl units, reduction steps, and removal of water, making it similar but not exactly the reverse of oxidation. The subtle differences in the chemical steps are crucial for the controlled synthesis of fatty acids.
"The enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase is regulated through phosphorylation by AMP-activated protein kinase and allosteric binding of citrate, ensuring the balance between synthesis and cellular energy levels."
Clarification: Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, a key enzyme in fatty acid synthesis, is indeed regulated through phosphorylation and allosteric binding of citrate. This regulation allows cells to respond to energy demands, modulating fatty acid production accordingly.
"Fatty acid synthesis involves a series of steps catalyzed by the multifunctional enzyme fatty acid synthase, where individual activities within the enzyme complex work together, ensuring efficient fatty acid production."
Clarification: Fatty acid synthase, a multi functional enzyme complex, plays a central role in fatty acid synthesis. Its individual activities work in harmony within the complex, allowing for the sequential addition of carbon units and the creation of fatty acids up to 16 carbons in length.

Good lecture overall. Downloadable slide materials do not contain all slides and need to be updated (I note this issue was raised by another commenter 3 years ago and responded to indicating it was fixed at that time although the issue persists currently), a few mis-spoken moments need either an audio re-record or an on-screen note (3:1 type 1 2nd degree block first described as 3:4, then as 2:1)

I have to repeat everything he says three times because of his way of expressing himself, I don't mean the accent, thats fine, but how he puts his sentences together for explaining something is confusing. This is being made way worse by the graphics and the fact that he can't point at what he actually means while he explains it. Also there is no legend to the curves that he explains.

An Amazing Foundation for Exams
von Adam W. am 20. April 2021 für Cardiovascular Pharmacology
Lecturio has the amazing ability to recruit professors that are not only knowledgeable but excel at teaching students. I wish I'd discovered the site earlier.
One of the biggest problems professors have in medical school is that they often forget that they're teaching people who don't already know the material. It can make what seems to the professor like a straightforward lecture into an unintelligible mess to their students. Dr. Shukle was able to break down pharmacology in a much easier to understand format than my professors. While it may not have all the information people will see on a school test, it provides a solid foundation that I used to go back over my lectures and fill in details (this time having a much better understanding of what they were talking about and consequently getting much more out of it).
I can't comment on their lecturio's affect on the USMLE, as I haven't taken that yet. But I do feel much better informed about pharmacology moving forward, and I recommend this series to everyone who felt like I did when listening to their school lectures.
Clear and conscise
von Soren A. am 17. April 2021 für Coronary Circulation – Heart (Cor)
Clear presentation AND good selection of figures to show both a. and v. circulation. It is an added plus that all figures have the names in latin and not English. In other of the anatomy videos (i.e. upper limb, brain) the names in English, whereas keeping it in latin is more international than English and makes us all think that we are treating a scientific topic with a long history. Keeping it in latin makes i more clear and less ambiguous than English. Keep names of anatomical structures in latin in you Lecturio lectures.

von OKWIR A. am 25. Dezember 2020 für Hypertension: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
I have really been enjoying Hypertension course, in particular the Pathophys!
It has been answering my previous dilemmas in the topic. For example, this 49 yo male diagnosed with HTN 2 yrs ago, previously had no chronic illness, was screened negative for Diabetes. His GP initiated him on Captopril and Bendrofluethiazide , now currently on Captopril 25 mg BD and Bendrofluethiazide 5mg, but his average BP has ever been around 152/100 mmHg. He has been struggling with weight control (BMI 31 or slightly above). I have been contemplating it is not a good control, and 2 days ago he called me complaining of visual impairment both eyes! Now I am thinking of Secondary HTN with Atherosclerosis as a Differential , oh again and a need for complete eye exam including Fondoscopy, again thinking ECG, Lipid panel and Renal Function test would be beneficial!. He have never done these tests because of affordability issue. ALL THE THOUGHT ABOVE COMES FROM MY CURRENT HYPERTENSION COURSE. BUT MOSTLY AN OPPORTUNITY OF FREE ACCESS TO PREMIUM CONTENT! HOW I PRAY GOD HELP ME SO THAT I PAY BACK TO MY COMMUNITY! I forever grateful please,
Receive my kind and warm regards this Special day!

Dr. Raj's teaching method
von keivan t. am 04. Oktober 2020 für Hypertension: Endocrine & Cardiovascular Causes
I do not have a major problem with the material he teaches, although sometimes he just points out to the facts and skips explanations. My major issue is with the overall demeanor of Dr. Raj while he is teaching. He tries to come across as someone cool and the George Clooney of the lecturio and it's very annoying and distracting. At least for me. For those who haven't noticed, look at his facial expression when delivering a lecture. I wish he would just lecture plane and simple without resorting to " hey you know I'm cool, right?". I try not to look at him and just stare at the slides to minimize this effect.

Explains the different types of drugs and mechanism of action staight to the point, the lecturer is a very good physician. But the guidlines differ from country to country, besides some information is contradictory and missing. Like he did not mention Labetalol as alpha and beta antagonist, he explains that the first drug of choice is ARBs in isolated systemic hypertension while in some previous quiz the answer was diuretics.

von Jean-François E. am 27. Oktober 2019 für Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation
Useful for all medical students from novices just starting to learn how to interpret ECGs to final year students in most rotations (e.g. ER).
Dr. Alpert is a great instructor, one of my favourite on Lecturio.
Once again, Lecturio provides a high quality course that I consider more useful than the classes I got in actual medical school.
I would also enjoy a second, more advanced course on ECG interpretation. It could cover emergent care ECG findings (e.g. should you call the cath lab, should you start heparin, should you give x or y drug, etc.), ECG findings from chronic or acute pulmonary diseases (e.g. cor pulmonale, PE, etc.) and less common findings (e.g. ST elevation from Brugada Syndrome). The more vignettes and ECGs to interpret, the better it would be!
Thank you.

ECG needs work
von Simarbeer S. am 06. August 2019 für Cardiac Physiology
I checked the entire ECG / EKG lectures and they confused me more than they helped.
The article 7 steps was a good start in my opinion but a video lecture of someone walking me through the steps would be better.
The lectures don't cover how one should go about reading the ECG and what to infer from the data provided.
This would come in handy to read them not just for the step exams but the clinical rotations as well so maybe add or change them up.
ECG in Boards and Beyond could be looked at as good example for that in my opinion.

Too fast and too many abbreviations!!
von Nicola K. am 30. September 2018 für Heart Failure (HF): Medications

Needs to be simplified and put before the etiology lecture
von Nicola K. am 30. September 2018 für Heart Failure (HF): Definition
uses too many abbreviations without explanation - for example, what the heck is EDV??
Bit scattered
von Nicola K. am 30. September 2018 für Heart Failure (HF): Pathogenesis and Etiologies
Not bad, it seems to jump around and rush a little bit. It would be good if CHF in general was properly defined and explained before etiologies were spoken about

von Neuer N. am 21. Juni 2018 für Hyperlipidemia
I really found the teaching methods used here beneficial. He'd go through the pathway and emphasizing key steps, then point out where they'll be important down the line, then come back to continue the pathway. The repetition helped so that when he taught the disease I knew why it was resulting in that outcome. Really a fan of it. Also, keep the memory cues coming.

Wonderful! An awesome lecturer, he just has a unique way of passing the message.
Great work Sir
Poor Presentation
von Flora I. am 01. Mai 2018 für Veins – Thoracic Vessels
I chose this rating because the structures the Lecturer is describing are unclear and difficult to follow. If the instructure had better visualization--such as highlighting the veins as he spoke--that would help immensley. An additional thing that would have helped is to have a visual summary of which veins feed into which at the end of the segment so the students could organize the vein tributaries better in their minds.
I like the over all information, it just needs to be presented better.

Loved it!
von Genevieve R. am 20. November 2017 für Fat Breakdown and Synthesis
The Good:
Lecture: 5/5 Amazing Lecture! I learned a lot!
The Not so good:
Quiz:2/5 Only 1 question....and was not as specific as I would like it to have been. Perhaps consider having at least 50% of the terms discussed included in the Quiz.
Very good
von Ken W. am 19. November 2017 für Cardiovascular Histology
Very good lectures, but one small suggestion to get this lecture to a full 5 stars. The cardiology section is lacking a lecture on endothelial cell function and properties. The Pawlina Histology text includes this subject matter in the Cardiology chapter.

Difficult to follow:
von sidra M. am 23. Oktober 2017 für Hyperlipidemia
-There was alot of jumping ahead and then circling back to the same point which made what should have been a 19 minute lecture, took about an hours lecture with all the pausing, going through transcripts and even looking up certain references myself to complete this lecture. The whole point of lecturio is high yield learning in a timely fashion. I appreciate the effort done and liked his style of teaching enthusiasm, however there needs to be less going off on tangents before the point has been made.

Lipids and eays metabolism
von Andreas F. am 02. Oktober 2017 für Lipid Metabolism
Kevin must be the best teacher ever. He explains with a certainty only a person with many years of lecturing can. Simple, easy and fast, making complicated matters seem easy to learn.
Compared to the slides i have in med. school, the content is the same. But this guy also gives the explaination in the same amount of time!
His body language is also nice to watch as they are firm and open, kind of directing your thoughts, like a maestro.
You just have to remember and do some repetition of EVERY detail he mentiones, it will for sure be on the exam.
I also use his lectures to simplify my understandings from pdf files from school and heavy textbooks.
I will recommend everyone to use this!!
Also i love the quiz afterwards.

Not helpful and makes even the most comprehensible topic difficult to understand
von Emanuele D. am 02. März 2017 für Ischemic Heart Disease: Basic Principles with Carlo Raj
"Now once this patient is giving you such a history, what would you want to give that patient automatically? You give this patient something in which there is going to be relief from the chest pain. Correct? What does that mean to you? It means underneath the tongue anytime that there's chest pain, you place nitroglycerin correct? Sublingual."
I'm sorry, and i really don't want to sound rude, but this is not how a professional teacher should speak. When i hear this i just get very confused, and i already have my teachertoconfuse me. Dr. Raj use this rethorical questions all the time and they're very annoying. What i like about lecturio's lessons is the fact that almost all the teachers use very easy sentences when they speak, and they use a lot schemes and pictures to be more clear.
