Auditory System and Vestibular System

by Craig Canby, PhD

The cochlea is a fluid-filled organ with a distinct spiral shape located within the inner ear. It plays an important role in the vestibular system, a complex network of neural pathways and structures that creates our senses of equilibrium and proprioception, which relate to orientation and the perception of head acceleration with associated compensation in eye movement and posture. These are clinically important reflexes known as the vestibulospinal and vestibulo-ocular reflexes, respectively. The auditory and vestibular systems are covered in depth in this course.

Effective Lecture on Components of the Auditory Pathway, Nuclei, and Otosclerosis
By Shane D. on 28. August 2023 for Auditory Nuclei, Auditory Pathway and Otosclerosis

Straightforward, explanative, and helpful It would be enhanced with the inclusion of labeled real anatomical structures to supplement learning and retention.

By Robin C. on 13. December 2021 for Hearing Tests: Rinne Test and Weber Test

I don't think he teaches in a way to grab students' attention. Long and dull.

Have none
By Deborah H. on 20. July 2021 for Auditory System and Vestibular System

Alot of the explanations could be simplified. Also the course was taught with a presumption that the student had prior knowledge of this system.
