About the Lecture

The lecture Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi Apparatus by Georgina Cornwall, PhD is from the course Cellular Structure.

Included Quiz Questions

  1. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum of pancreatic secretory cells helps in the synthesis of digestive enzymes.
  2. The rough endoplasmic reticulum has a rough surface due to the presence of ribosomes, whereas the smooth endoplasmic reticulum lacks ribosomes.
  3. Hepatocytes have abundant smooth endoplasmic reticulum that can detoxify and inactivate toxins.
  4. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum can synthesize membranes due to its high phospholipid content.
  5. Rough endoplasmic reticulum is the main manufacturing center for secretory proteins such as enzymes and hormones.
  1. It receives proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum, modifies and sorts them, and finally packs them for secretion by the secretory vesicles.
  2. It receives mRNA from the nucleus, modifies it, and finally packs it for dispatch to the ribosomes.
  3. It helps assemble a fully functional protein-synthesis machinery around the mature mRNA molecule.
  4. It receives tRNA from the nucleus and combines them with ribosomes to commence translation.
  5. It receives rRNA from the nucleus and combines them with proteins to create a fully functional ribosome.

Excellent lecture.
By Mariana . on 14. December 2023 for Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi Apparatus

The most important part of this lecture in my opinion is the analogies that Dr. Georgina offers. It really help us to understand for example when she associated the Golgi Complex with a Fedex facility, or when she connects the fact that liver cells have more SER since one of its important functions is detoxification.
